Alex is awesome. I’ve finally found someone I can trust! He won’t make a repair unless it’s necessary. I’ve had things I’ve taken to other mechanics and they charged me a few hundred dollars to repair, and I still had the issue. He was able to tell me why I was having different issues when other mechanics just shrugged their shoulders, at ‘reputable’ mechanice in Sebastopol. He also has fair prices, which I appreciate. I have a lot of respect for his work and appreciate his great attitude as well. He’s always kind and respectful. I only hope I can always get my car in without waiting weeks like other local shops!

While on vacation earlier this year and several hundred miles from home our truck's water pump died and left us stranded. We went from Monte Rio to Sebastopol, shop to shop, before we found Golden Gear. It was already late on a Friday afternoon, basically the shop was closed and the mechanics had gone home. But Alex was there. He could have turned us away, we had already been turned away several times so our hopes were dimming. But fortunately we found our jackpot at this little shop in Sebastopol. Not only did Alex take us in but he shot right down to get the repair parts and opened up on his weekend day off just for us. If you don't think that's customer service then you just don't get it.Not only did Alex do our repairs on his off day but he did an inspection of the vehicle, aired the tires, topped off the fluids, and remounted our camper shell that became misaligned through the long towing process.Alex and Maria, my hat is off to you both. I am very thankful we found your shop. You're every bit the "Golden Gear" that's in your name. Five stars isn't even enough.Thank you again.

This is a small shop with good service, a friendly and knowledgeable owner. The fees have been reasonable and the recommendations have been helpful. Often I can get in for a service or an issue sooner than other mechanic shops in Sebastopol. It is in a convenient location on Main Street, tucked behind the laundromat (right before the post office). I personally don't like chain stores, and usually feel over-charged so was glad to find this shop.

Very fair pricing and courteous service. It's really convenient, near Boomers laundromat on Main Street. He fixed my horn and checked the brakes, installed a new part and gave me a place to wait. This is a new owner and i think we're lucky to have him here. I have a 93 Toyota Pick up truck.

I am very happy with my experience at Golden Gear. I had called Patterson, but they were booked out two weeks so they referred me to him, feeling he was a trustworthy and skilled mechanic. Alex was able to get me in, and was very helpful and kind and gave me a great deal. I was having a coolant leak and was worried it was the heater core. He did the pressure check and found it was simply the coolant reservoir that needed replaced. He waived the 110$ fee for the test and only charged me for my oil change. I'm so relieved for the simple fix, and also happy that he didn't try to make it something more than it was- a problem I've experienced in the past with other mechanics in the Sebastopol area. I'm really relieved to have found a great mechanic. I will definitely be back to get other work done! What a kind and awesome shop.
